My Experience volunteering for the CWBR
To put it shortly, I really enjoyed my time in South Africa and was very disappointed when I had to leave two months ahead of my planned departure. The reason I enjoyed South Africa so much is due to its wide variety of experiences I had. First of all, I was able to witness this beautiful country in person. South Africa is a stunning country with an extreme variety of what you can see. From mountains to the sea and everything in between, South Africa seems to have it all.
Secondly, I had the opportunity to work on many different projects from droning to teaching kids to play basketball. These projects taught me how to, how to fly a drone (I guess this didn’t come as too much of a surprise), as well as how to be more autonomous and effective in achieving the goals I set for myself. Admittedly, it does really help to work with people, with whom you enjoy spending time with.
Lastly, the people in South Africa and the people I worked with were both great. Often times these were same people, but in some cases I was also working with other volunteers. However, no matter with who exactly I was working with, I was always met with an open and enthusiastic mentality. Therefore, even when sometimes work felt a bit tedious, working together with the other volunteers and South Africans made me enjoy even those parts.
To summarize again, it was an awesome experience that I wish could have been longer.
